How it Works

FAQ
Favstar helps you find the best tweets:
  • from across Twitter
  • from your favorite people
  • that you have written
@wondroushippo describes Favstar this way: 'A site tracking what you, your friends, and everyone else is favoriting and retweeting on Twitter.'

Getting Started

Sign in to Favstar via Twitter. This allows Favstar to connect your activity to the Twitter database. After you sign in, you’ll be able to see your own most popular tweets, and create your own Favstar list of your favorite people.

How Favstar gets its data

Favstar collects your stars and retweets every 5 seconds if you are signed in.

Your total count of favorites received is updated once a day. (If you have the bonus features, you get an hourly update of this number).

Favorites (Stars)

Favstar shows the “favorite” star in the top right corner of a tweet. When you click this star, this tweet goes into your favorites list on Favstar and Twitter.

Favstar tracks these stars along with the stars other people give your tweets.

Starring tweets encourages the writers you like, and the more stars, the more likely other people will see a particular tweet.

Don’t be shy about giving out stars. They are greatly appreciated.

Retweeting

Once you have followers, you’ll have a reason to pass along your favorite tweets. Just click the retweet symbol to the right of the tweet, and it will be sent out to all your followers.

Finding people you like

Favstar helps you find people you like. When you read a tweet you like, you can also see the most popular tweets this person has written, along with their other recent tweets. And you can see their favorite tweets (using the discovered button on the left), and who else liked these tweets.

By starring and following people you like, you encourage them to keep writing the kind of tweets you enjoy, making Favstar more fun.

Your Favstar List

Your Favstar List is a short list of your favorite tweeters. This is different from the Twitter list of people you follow (although individuals may be on both lists).

The 20 most recent popular tweets of the people on your Favstar list are saved so that you can read through them at any time. To add someone to your Favstar list, click on their image and then click on the button “Add to my Favstar list” under the picture in the upper left.

Researching before following

Favstar is a great tool for researching people before following. That’s because you can see their most popular tweets of all time on Favstar, while on Twitter you can only see their most recent tweets.

You can follow anyone at any time by clicking “follow” under their image. This person will then be added to your Twitter list of people you follow.

Followers

Followers are your audience. If you write things that are enjoyed by others, you will collect a growing audience.

Following back

There is an expectation by some users that if they follow you, you should follow them back. Others disagree.

We recommend that you follow people you enjoy and find interesting.

The leaderboards

The leaderboards contain the most popular recent tweets. They are organized by 100, 50, 30, and 10 stars. When a tweet reaches one of these levels in a short period of time, it moves to the top of that leaderboard.

Tweeting from Favstar

By tweeting directly from Favstar, your tweet will immediately be seen by people watching that list. It will move down the list over the next few minutes and disappear as new tweets are added. In this way, you get exposure to people that don’t yet follow you.

The Bonus Features

You can help support Favstar and have more fun by buying the Bonus Features.

You’ll get to give a Tweet of the Day Trophy to the best tweet each day, see and show more tweets, and get custom notifications.
